The Inspired Teaching Demonstration School is accepting applications for a Manager of Student Services. The school is seeking a self-motivated, dynamic, and thoughtful individual with a strong belief in a progressive, inquiry-based approach to teaching and learning. The Inspired Teaching Demonstration School serves PreSchool – 8<sup>th</sup> grade.

THE ROLE OF MANAGER of STUDENT SERVICES

Inspired Teaching staff possess the beliefs, skills, and accomplishments that lead all students to achieve at high levels. To establish a true professional learning community, all adults in the building are considered educators, as they all interact regularly with students. As such, a firm belief and grounding in the philosophy and values of the school's mission is crucial for every employee.

The Manager of Student Services is responsible for overseeing and coordinating the spectrum of supports and activities that address students’ academic, social, emotional, and behavioral needs. This position is responsible for managing services for students from the point a need is identified, through the IEP process, as appropriate.

Student Support Team (SST)

  • Oversee the SST Coordinator to support the collaboration of all key stakeholders to problem solve, develop, implement and track SST plans for individual students
  • Maintain accurate data and records that are relevant to planning, implementation, and evaluation of student wellness services, including compliance of student support services files.
  • Ensure student support services staff abide by IDEA and local regulations
  • Collaborate with families by sharing relevant resources, building a strong home-school connection with individual families, and making referrals to community agencies.
  • Collaborate with clinical and health education staff to develop student programming in the areas of mental health, truancy prevention and intervention, nutrition, and physical activity.
  • Provide guidance for social workers and school counselors

Special Education

  • Ensure that high quality special education instruction is delivered for students with IEPs.
  • Help ensure a full continuum of services and create a monitoring system for the school’s continuum of services.
  • Implement effective progress monitoring system for students with IEPs.
  • Oversee compliance based deadlines and create and monitor calendars for initial evaluation timelines, re-eligibilities, and triennial reviews; Own scheduling and holding IEP, SEP, BIP, and Eligibility meetings in a timely manner
  • Support school leaders in staffing, training, modeling and accountability on IEPs and 504s
  • Maintain SEDS and PowerSchool school databases
  • Work closely with school psychologist and other related service providers to ensure assessments are completed in a timely manner
  • Coordinate the implementation of accommodations on state and local testing in collaboration with school teams
  • Serve as the LEA Representative in IEP meetings
  • Ensure that case managers have the proper paperwork for meetings and that the follow-through after the meeting is completed timely and efficiently
  • Ensure IEPs are compliant with federal and district regulations, goals are standards based and relevant for the individual student, and present levels of performance are appropriate and current.

QUALIFICATIONS

The successful applicant will demonstrate significant knowledge and experience in his/her field.

Qualifications include:

  • Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred
  • Deep knowledge and experience with the range of student services that support student academic and emotional growth
  • Knowledge of evidence-informed, multi-tiered interventions that support student success
  • Deep knowledge and experience with special education processes, IDEA law, and compliance requirements
  • Clear understanding of the delineation and differences between processes and policies for general student support/intervention, and special education
  • Ability to establish strong, trusting, and authentic relationships with a wide variety of individuals, including school administrators, teachers, parents and families, and a diverse local community
  • Ability to provide culturally responsive services to students and families from diverse backgrounds and proven facility supporting and engaging all families
  • Strong conflict resolution skills when working with students and adults
  • Positive, strengths-based approach to students and staff, and a willingness to collaborate with administration and staff around creating a safe, positive school climate.
  • Ability to collaborate with teaching staff on improving and increasing student motivation and engagement in the classroom. 
  • Clear, concise, and persuasive writing and speaking skills.

The school hosts Teaching Residents enrolled in Center for Inspired Teaching’s Teacher Certification Program in which Inspired Teaching Fellows study under the guidance of classroom teachers. Fellows earn their Washington DC teaching certification through the DC state-approved teacher certification program run by Center for Inspired Teaching.

As a demonstration school, staff works to disseminate our instructional approach through inviting education influencers to visit the school, and disseminating the model outward via preparation of Teaching Residents, conference presentations, and other opportunities to speak in the community.
